What is DTG Printing?

17 February 2025

DTG (Direct-to-Garment) printing is a technology that directly applies water-based ink onto fabric—much like an inkjet printer prints on paper. The specialized inks absorb into the fibers, creating a soft, seamless print without any film-like layer. This method is ideal for achieving high-detail designs with intricate color gradients and fine details.

Advantages of DTG Printing

  • Vibrant Colors & Sharp Details
Perfect for high-resolution designs, complex artwork, and smooth color gradients.
  • Soft & Natural Feel
The ink integrates with the fabric, resulting in a finish that feels soft and natural rather than plastic-like.

Disadvantages of DTG Printing

  • Limited Fabric Compatibility

Works best on 100% cotton or high percentage cotton blends but is not able to print on polyester or synthetic fabrics.

  • Higher Cost per Piece

DTG has higher ink costs compared to DTF.
